Meet Leo

My name is Leonardo Leiras, but everyone calls me Leo. I am originally from Portugal and have lived in the UK for over ten years. I now live in Bristol with my family, which includes our two young children and two lovely, silly cats.

My Veterinary Experience

I graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2014 and, in 2022, completed a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care. I subsequently became an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care.

I have extensive experience in companion animal veterinary medicine. Before 2018, I worked at Rowe Veterinary Group in Bradley Stoke. Since then, I have worked in the out-of-hours emergency service at Harris, Hill & Gibbons in Trowbridge, where I continue to practise part-time.

Forever Loved at Home – How It Started and My Values

I started my peaceful home pet euthanasia service in early 2026.

Euthanasia is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner may ever have to make, but it is sometimes the kindest way to relieve suffering in terminally or severely ill pets.

Having performed euthanasia countless times throughout my veterinary career, I came to believe that, whenever possible, this difficult and deeply personal moment should take place at home. In familiar surroundings, pets can remain close to their loved ones, without the stress of travelling to a veterinary practice or being surrounded by unfamiliar people and animals. Families can also have the privacy, space and time they need to say goodbye, without feeling rushed.

I also recognised that many pet owners would welcome the option of a home farewell, but that arranging a home visit through a busy veterinary practice can sometimes be difficult.

These factors led me to establish Forever Loved at Home. Since starting the service, I have found it to be an incredibly meaningful experience. Although every visit is emotional, it is also a privilege to help pets and their families through such a difficult time.

My aim is to make saying goodbye a little more bearable by offering compassionate, individual care, allowing families time to say goodbye without feeling rushed, and doing everything I can to keep each pet as comfortable, relaxed and free from pain as possible throughout the process.
